Dial M for Murder (INTF)

I-start Chinese Theatre presents “Dial  M for Murder” — a classic thriller by Hitchcock, adapted by Yabing Liu to an old Shanghai story and directed by Zhaoxin Zhou.

Yuannian is a retired tennis player in Shanghai. He discovers that his wife Xiaoman has fallen in love with the famous crime writer Wenran.  Consequently, he plans to murder his unfaithful wife. But things don’t go according to plan. HIs wife is not killed but the hired killer dies instead! What happens next? The audience is nervous for everyone from the beginning of the show.

In this classic whodunit, characters navigate a web of relationships and emotions, each trying to get what they want and maybe, even uncover the truth.  Wenran, Xiaoman, Yongnian Zhang, Fu Yu and Ping Wang - one of them is the killer.

I-start Theatre is the first Chinese theatre company in Auckland. They have produced four plays since it launching in 2014 and have had a positive recpetion from audiences and the media.

The International Theatre Festival 2018 (INTF) is stoked to facilitate and present Dial M for Murder to the community. INTF is a flagship offering from Rangmanch Inc, Auckland's beloved theatre company with Indian roots. Since 2008, Rangmanch Inc has produced plays in diverse South Asian languages. Now in its tenth year the Company has stepped-up and conceptualized a first of its kind Festival that encourages productions in international languages. In doing so, team Rangmanch Inc hopes to celebrate and nurture the rich artistic and linguistic traditions of communities in New Zealand.
