Written by Tommy Murphy
Directed by Katherine McRae
Starring Elizabeth McRae, Michele Hine & Bruce Phillips

Gwen is ninety. Her kids have just moved her into a new housing development where she's surrounded by bewildering gadgets.

Into this Australian suburban wilderness a young African priest arrives to bless the house. As the family gather they jockey for advantage, squabble over who will look after Gwen and rewrite family history to suit themselves. All Gwen wants is a final game of tennis.

This bittersweet comedy drama by acclaimed Australian playwright Tommy Murphy, writer of Holding the Man (Silo Theatre 2009), won Best Play: Western Australian Premier's Literary Awards 2011. Murphy's work has been described as canny, dangerous and very funny.

"Gwen in Purgatory is a play for and about us all. It is warm, funny, sad, tragic, poignant, moving and unsettling"
